History

The Colonial Crayon Co. started Port Clinton, OH which was located at 215 Maple St.  They bought the plant in 1909. The company was made up of an organization of capitalists. They spent $50,000 in 1909 doing improvements to the former Standards Products plant with a power plant, an electric light plant, a railroad spur and a box factory. They weren't up and running until 1910 though. They moved their main office to Akron, OH in July of 1911 to make it more convenient to handle business. They produced both crayon and chalk products and tended to focus on a lot of overseas sales with the bulk of their advertising going into periodicals bound for overseas audiences.  They were sold to Binney & Smith in 1916 and their machinery was shipped to the Easton, PA factory in September of that year.  Colonial Crayon Co had their former building sold in 1920 to the Ohio State Rubber Co.  They were only in operation for 7 years and only two true crayon products are known to survive at the time of this writing.  Fortunately they had a few advertisements that featured pictures of their product so I can show several others too.
