History

The Xhosa word 'dala', when translated into English means 'to bring into existence' or to create. It has also become a South African slang word for "making a plan" "getting it done" or "doing it your way".  Dala chose this word to brand their stationery products.  They began in 1992 when South Africa was still under apartied.  The Dala brand was born in 1994.  They have produced a number of crayon products under their Teddy brand name.
