History

Elmer's Products Canada Corporation is the Canadian branch of Elmer's Products Inc. out of Columbus, OH.  This a company that has a long complex history originating with the Borden Company who introduced the first consumer white glue in 1947. Under the trade name "Cascorez Glue," the glue was packaged in glass bottles with "ice cream pop" type wooden sticks attached with a rubber band. Shortly thereafter, the glue was repositioned under the name "Elmer's Glue-All" after Elmer, the spouse of Borden's famed corporate symbol, Elsie the cow.

The Borden Company had been around since 1857 having started their dairy business first in Connecticut.  They survived until 2005 but had been divesting of product lines since the early 1990s due to financial woes.  In 2003 Berwind Corp. purchased Elmer's Products and merged them with the Hunt Corporation, the owners of the X-ACTO and Boston brands, uniting two of the leading companies in school, adult craft and office products together under the same ownership.  This allowed the Elmer's brand to extend beyond adhesives and into the world of crayons among other products.  In their Canadian office, they got the licensed rights to produce a Harry Potter box of crayons during the height of the movie series run.  They also experimented with their own Elmer's line of crayons.
