History

The Ideal Toy Company was founded in 1907 by Morris and Rose Michtom.  He was responsible for creating the first Teddy Bear after Theodor Roosevelt back in 1902.  He then founded the toy company in 1907 and they became the largest doll-making company in the USA during the post-WWII era.  They were also responsible for bringing Rubik's Cube over from Hungary in 1980 (it was called Magic Cube there).

After the success of a Shirley Temple doll they moved their factory over to Long Island.  Morris's son, Benjamin took over in 1938 after the death of his father.  The company went public in 1968.  By 1982 the grandson of the found sold the company to CBS Toys.  They shut the factory down in 1983 after some product recalls and lawsuits.  They eventually merged with Mattel in 1997.

It is unclear when they produced coloring crayons.  The design looks like it was from the 1930s and it would have to be prior to 1938 given the name of the company on the box.
