History

I couldn’t find a lot of information on this company.  Clearly they made pencils and at least one crayon product.  There were several Venus Pencil companies in existence over the years.  There was one in Canada that operated from 1931 to 1979.  They were eventually absorbed by Faber-Castel and then Newell.  That company was a subsidiary of American Lead Pencil Co. out of New York.  I suspect that this one was also a subsidiary that operated in Europe.  If not, I do know that they expanded to Australia in 1949 by opening a branch in Sydney.  There is an ad for Venus Pencils out of London going back to 1918 so they may have been around for a long time.  They were still hiring as late as 1963 but I can find no other records of them after that.  They were likely acquired by a larger company (Faber-Castell) either in the mid/late 1960s or certainly in the 1970s.
