Crayola No 16 (International)
The
No 16 line was made and sold in several different international locations and
started in different years depending on which location. They are also more difficult to date. Rather than offer up a complete chronology
including unknown boxes, I can only feature what is known and speculate at
possible production dates for the versions since so little is documented and
not all examples have surfaced.

16 What makes this unique: The company redid their entire packaging in 1997 and
created the familiar rainbow underline below their name. This retail version featured the yellow
hanger tab and started the signature International crayon tips at the
bottom. Each size package contained a
different number of crayons. For the
16 count box there were four. This
image had a registered trademark even.
By this time they had gone back to an actual window instead of a mock. |

16 What makes this unique: In 2003 Binney & Smith redesigned their entire line. They took advantage of the window’s shape of a smile and enhanced that to actually look like a smile. For this retail box version they used a mock window. The brand name was affixed above the window and used a different font style. They kept the trademark three crayons but made them slightly longer and dropped the trademark symbol. The crayons below were changed slightly two with the blue and red switching places and have a more 3 dimensional feel. |
