Crayola No 16 (USA), 1910 – Current
The No 16 line isn’t quite as old as the No 8 line. They started this size box and line during a major redesign of their product. It really marked the end of beginning of the phasing out of many of their initial product designs. In the case of this line though, there was no 16 count predecessor.

These weren’t necessarily part of the box design, merely a pricing add on later either at the factory or at the store. There was no rule on where these were to be stamped and thus, you might find a lot of variation based on the particular box you acquire. |

overall the changes are fairly subtle.
First, they dropped the ‘No.” on the flap. Second, they stopped arching the lettering
and went from an all upper case name to Upper/Lower case. They dropped the redundant ‘16’ from the
center of the box and added the word ‘Different’. They added a registered trademark symbol
next to their logo and on both chevrons and finally, they flipped the bottom
text so that Non-Toxic was at the very bottom. They also replaced the ‘Made in |

defining two types of packaging:
Retail packaging with hanger tabs on them and the same design using
their standard front flap box for bulk/school sector. Not necessarily every variation got made
with both types of packaging though.
This particular box marked an era where they first used a window to
see the crayons in this product line.

A number of changes had occurred as well. They moved the ‘Different Brilliant Colors’ up to the hanger flap and with more room on the hanger, moved the 16 to the far left. They dropped all the sizing information with the exception of the crayon count. They also for the first time introduced another green color to part of their box. |
