8 What makes this unique: This was clearly a special promotional box made for the Flying Star factory location within Binney & Smith. There is only paper evidence that this box ever existed; it was found as a photocopy of a set of older boxes and stored in some old records at the Smithsonian. There is nothing known about this box other than the approximate year it would have been produced given the design of the time. No documentation has identified where the Flying Star factory was. |

Crayons: 8 Colors: 8 What makes this unique: This is a special box of the No 8 produced to acknowledge the
closing of the Winfield Kansas plant after 40 years in 1992. It was designed to look almost exactly like
the original commemorative box from 1952.
This box isn’t nearly as obscure as the original having been produced
much later but still doesn’t show up very often as few were produced and they
were given to employees of the plant. |

Crayons: 8 Colors: 8 What makes this unique: This is simply a normal No 8 box but with an internal
Binney & Smith sticker placed on the front identifying a Renewable
Resource project from 11/1/82. This
box came pictured as a group of private held boxes from a former
executive. The boxes were never
offered for sale so while this box does exist, it isn’t in the collector
community. |

4 Est. Value (Mint): $7
Crayons: 8 Colors: 8 What makes this unique: This is simply a normal No 8 box but has a wrap around
strip promoting adding 8 new colors to their color catalog after having
retired 8 older ones. It is a bit
harder to find these as I am sure the band was easily broken or lost but for
some reason they show up more often than the blue band one for the 8 colors
to be retired. |

considered the first multicultural box but I thought I’d feature it here also
since it is just a normal No 8 box. |
